Hello!

I'm Sarah, aka Scatty, Bun, Mum or "The Wifelet".

Thank you for your interest in my little tin "tinkerings"!

I've always liked making jewellery, from quite a young age,

using bits of wire and beads and sparkly things. I ran a small business

selling imported silver jewellery for a few years, and learned a lot

about retail (and people), but I wanted to make pretty things myself.

I did look into silversmithing, but it was expensive to learn,

let alone buy materials and tools.

Feeling discouraged, I was browsing Pinterest one day when a "pin"

came up entitled "how to make earrings from old tin boxes".

Intrigued, I spent a few days acquiring the necessary tools

(and an old tin), then a few more slashing my fingers

and swearing a bit ... OK, a LOT!

Several mishaps (and a lot of plasters) later,

I had my first pair of recycled tin earrings,

and the rest, as they say ...

The very first ScattyBun earrings. This was a 1950s tin - I soon learned that the older a tin, the thicker the metal ... and the harder it is to cut! I'd say I cut my teeth on this one, but actually I just cut my fingers. A lot.

These reminded me of tiny pie-tins! This fabulously colourful tin is called "Jewel Drum" by Huntley and Palmers (H&P made the BEST tins!)

Possibly the oldest tin I've ever had - not actually sure how old it was, but I couldn't bring myself to cut it up in the end!

These magnificent ears belonged to the original ScattyBun herself, my beloved Lily, who ruled the roost here at ScattyBun HQ for seven years, constantly under my feet trying to "help". I miss her very much.
